I’m a hopeless tweeter. And by hopeless, I don’t mean hopelessly addicted, tweeting all the time. I mean I just can’t seem to get the hang of it, find the time for it, keep up with it. I’m barely keeping up with blog reading, let alone tweets! Which is why I’m out of the loop a bit about some exciting news – an Aussie Bloggers Conference!

I’ve read about Blog Her conferences in the USA and thought that it would be awesome to have one here, and now it’s coming! Just imagine, seeing all these wonderful, funny, insightful bloggers in person. Not LOLing but actually laughing out loud in person with sound and movement!

BUT. Will I be going? I’m really not sure. Or maybe I’m sure… sure that I’ll be missing out. I’m already going on a girly trip to Melbourne late this year AND I’ll be back at work when the conference is on, so I’ll have all those plates spinning and balls flying. Then there’s the guilt. You know. The mummy guilt? I’m already feeling guilty about planning a trip with my girlfriends, let alone a trip just for me and my little blog.

Anyhoo…. it’s something to think about. If I don’t go I’ll enjoy reading all about it!  Are you going to the Aussie Bloggers Conference?

Books I’d like to read

Here are a few things that have been on my mind to read or give to others to read.

I’m so excited to have my very own little one to do fun activities with, but I must remember that my particular little one will only be very, very little for the time that I’ll be not working, and have more time on my hands. Still, this book caught my eye in a recent Hip Infant blog post. It might also make a lovely gift for friends who have little ones more able to do these fun things.

I love listening to Radio National, and Life Matters in particular. I recently heard about a book called Grandma Magic, a book of stories from real grandmothers about the special job that they have. I thought this would be a lovely gift for the three grandma’s (Nana, Nana and Grandma!) that Pebble will have.

Way back in 2004 I went to a conference where I heard Carol Weisman speak about raising charitable children, and I’ve always had it in mind to read her book. This is something I’d love to embrace with my little family.

 
Since my early childhood studies I have loved the work of Edward de Bono and think that this book would work particularly well for me as an audio book. I just wish audio books were cheaper! I may have to get to my local library to help me out in this area. I wonder if they take requests?

On the topic of audio books – has anyone had any experience with audible? They look good but I wonder how it all works – is the book mind to keep in audio form, or does it come with a limited licence? Are the subscription rates worth it, or is it better to buy one off?

Coveting…..

A completely self-indulgent moment - here are a few unnecessary but lovely things that I desire to own. Oh, what’s that you say? My birthday is coming up? And Xmas too? Well there you go, what a co-inky-dink!
Every year my family and friends ask me “what do you want for your birthday/xmas?” and every year I’m stumped. So here’s a list for me to refer back to when the good times roll around (it’s still a while away yet, but I love it!).

• Body Shop lip shine in Guava. I so nearly bought this the other day, but decided I’d best save my money for nappies. Boring!
  
• The Body Shop tinted glow enhancer. So pretty.
   
• Massage or Facial voucher for my fav local salon – or the decadent Jurlique. Bliss!
• Fancy restaurant voucher – I think Mr RG and I will not be enjoying many nights out in the near future, but we both love to enjoy a night of wining and dining.
• The Blue Ribbon Cookbook is a collection of award winning recipes from country shows around Australia. I love to cook, and I love checking out the gorgeous treats at the show – what could be better!?
• A V-slicer – I was reminded about wanting one of these while at this year’s Royal Show. They rock.
  
• The Nigella Collection 9 DVD Box Set. No words needed.
  
• Stephanie Alexander’s The Cook’s Companion.
  
• Diva voucher. Can’t have enough  junk jewellery.
  

Polkabats and Octopus Slacks

I just read about this book on Dooce, and think it would make an awesome addition to my children’s book collection. It has the word turds in it! Surely this is on Grandad would love to read with Pebble in the future.

Shopping for baby

I love these nesting blocks from EcoToys – they’re open-ended, allowing for creative play, and are made from natural materials.  I think kids have too much plastic these days. They rarely get the chance to handle any natural materials!
I’ve added these to my covet list.
